How Would You Spend Your Best Summer Weekends in Chicago, IL?

May 28, 2018
by Danny Brown

Every month throughout summer is packed with fun-filled events and festivals. Ranging from craft beer events to concerts, each has its own charm and attracts throngs of people from all over the world. One of the biggest would be Taste of Chicago in July and Chicago Gourmet in September. Thanks to its diverse cultural background, Windy City’s unique neighborhoods aptly plays host to culinary feasts, concerts, comic conventions, free yoga and dance classes, fairs, and parades. Visitors would also time their trips to Chicago to coincide with these events. This is so they can grab the opportunity to tour the famous cities and suburban neighborhoods around Chicago at the same time.

Music courses through the veins of the city, almost as much as its unique brand of cuisine. Stunning concerts and gatherings are held at Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Soldier Field Stadium, Morgan Park Sports Center, Lincoln Hall, Grant Park, The Riviera Theater, Millennium Park, and Ping Tom Memorial Park.

You should also check out Chicago's jaw-dropping parties like Lollapalooza Chicago, Chicago Blues Festival, House Party, Chicago Gospel Music Festival, Grant Park Music Festival, Chicago Jazz Festival, and the renowned World Music Festival when you’re in town. Here's a quick look at what you can experience when you’re in this trendy city!

Grant Park, to Chicagoans, is what Central Park is to New Yorkers - the city's main centerpiece and nature’s (and man’s) masterpiece. Better yet, it’s Chicago’s very own natural front yard. Grant Park has been hosting countless events since opening its doors, especially food, art and cultural events. Taste of Chicago, therefore, is no different. Admission to the event is absolutely free and there are no restrictions on participants, as long as you arm yourself with enough coupons to go around. I’m sure you’ll be stuffing yourself with all the goodies from the likes of Texas de Brazil, The Eli's Cheesecake Co., Porkchop, Chicago's Doghouse, Aunty Joy's Jamaican Kitchen and Beat Kitchen throughout the day. And all this while enjoying Chicago’s best entertainment coming in from both the Petrillo Music Shell and Bud Light Stage.

The Taste of Chicago has become a model of sorts for countless other food events all around the country, and the world over. While Grant Park is known for its notable amenities and wellness features like Buckingham Fountain, the Art Institute of Chicago, Maggie Daley Park and Millennium Park, tourist attractions like Field Museum of Natural History, Shedd Aquarium and the Adler Planetarium is a short walk away!

Never one to sit back and soak in the success, he’s hitting the road with his regular boys again, namely SZA, Schoolboy Q and Jay Rock. This time, he’s bringing the tunes to Hollywood Casino Amphitheater in Chicago’s budding suburb, Tinley Park. And they’re calling the tour as it is... the Championship Tour. On top of showering the audience with familiar pulsating beats, you can expect his troops to strut out 'new stuff’ he’s been hiding under his sleeves and waiting to show off. The Rapper of the Year (GQ) will be grooving on the centerpiece of Tinley Park’s very first outdoor venue this summer and you wouldn’t want to miss it for the world.

Chugging Action Happening at Chicago Craft Beer Festival

July 21 - July 22, 2018
Event : 12pm - 10pm; Tasting time : 11.30am - 4pm
2045 N Lincoln Park W, Chicago, IL 60614-4707

Over 70 local brewsters will come together with other national and regional-level craft beer brewers to show off the mantle they have for producing a good, cold glass of craft beer. Not the kind you carelessly pour into plastic cups for convenience. The serious stuff. It has been so well received that it is celebrating its 50th year anniversary in 2018!

The flavor-packed 2-day event will take place at Lincoln Park and with a ticket, your 3-ounce choice beer is for the taking. The wide open space allows visitors to catch the band playing in the distance, head out for a quick walk, or people-watch. The buzz is created (in more ways than one) by the barrage of Windy City's taprooms, pubs, microbreweries, hangout spots and approximately 4,000 microbreweries. Lincoln Park has always been a staple location for those who like the great outdoors. The park is a kid-friendly location to enjoy a walk, visit a zoo, have a picnic or splash around in a water area.

Running with you would be runners, walkers, volunteers, organizations, groups, sponsors and families who are out to do their parts for the society in their own unique ways. Organized by A Safe Haven Foundation, as with the years before, the marathon will take place along Chicago’s gorgeous Montrose Harbor Grove from 8.30am onwards on July 14, 2018. While you’re out there having fun, changing your lifestyle and keeping fit, proceeds from the event will go towards the foundation’s main mission to provide shelter for the homeless in Chicago and helping turn their lives around.

The organization’s been around for well over 20 years and providing Windy City folks (which includes women with children, youth, families, ex-offenders, and single adults) with comprehensive and specialized programs so they can find their way back to self-sufficiency.
